Local Candidates Q&As
Here’s a summary spot for all of Q&As for Salmon Arm candidates for mayor, council & SD83 Trustees via Aim High
Aim High as a hub featured 3 portals to Q&As being asked in the community: (1) Links to what other media (SA Observer, FriAM etc) and community organizations are posting (2) Qs from the public that are sent to AHSA then to the candidates. Note: My commitment was to ensure that the questions werefair, respectful and apply to all of the candidates. (3) A few short questions by me – mainly on governance-related matters – to all candidates in all of the 3 local races.
Lots of folks are asking how they can find out more about the candidates – especially as they may not really know a number of them.
Go to the Updated Candidates Q&As tab at the top https://timlavery.ca/candidates-qas/ for a current list of local media & community organization resources to learn about these #SalmonArm candidates. Also includes info on the Salmon Arm Chamber of Commerce Open House on Tuesday Oct. 6 plus a link to a great (IMHO) list of Qs from Christina Benty called ELECTION 2026: ASK BETTER QUESTIONS of your local govt candidates.
The links to the 3 Q&As that Aim High asked the candidates are also at this Tab location

All 3 Q&As will be posted before the first Advance Poll on Oct 7th. Check back for responses to Q3 – Please describe the leadership style that you bring as Mayor for Salmon Arm. Submissions due Thurs Oct 1st at Noon and posted asap after that.
Q2 Context: There are a lot of scheduled meetings that require regular attendance and associated decision-making. Regular Council, Planning, Special & Budget Council meetings, half & full day in-service on legal & financial responsibilities (especially for new politicos), policy conferences and a range of internal city committees and external tables that you will be involved with. In addition, as the main conduit of council decisions to staff, regular meetings with senior staff are also vital. In general, meetings usually take place during regular office working hours due to a host of internal and external constraints in scheduling.
Q2 Question: Do you have a significant degree of control and flexibility over your own work week schedule so that you can fully participate in the many meetings required? If you have responsibilities to an employer or commitments to other scheduled endeavours, do you already have in place a flexible approved Leave of Absence plan from your employer that will permit you to fulfill your municipal responsibilities?
