Q&A #1 for Council Candidates

This is the first set of responses of three Qs to be sent to all of the Salmon Arm council candidates. All 3 Q&As will be posted before the first Advance Poll on Oct 7th. Check back for Q2 on the degree of control and flexibility over their own weekly schedule so that they can fully participate in the many meetings required Due Sunday Sept 27th noon

Q1: Context: This Q was going to be posed to you anyhow but the recent speculation of possible election calls from higher levels of govt has brought this to the forefront. The continuity of having elected local govt representatives in place over a full 4-year term is vital to the functioning of the council table. Do you commit to completing the full 2026 – 2030 term as a SA Councillor and to not run in any provincial or federal election during that time?

Q&A #1 – Responses from Local Candidates Incoming on Tues Sept 22nd

The first of three Qs from AHSA has been sent to the Salmon Arm mayoral, council & SD83 Trustee candidates with responses to be posted on Tuesday. Q&A #1 is on candidates’ Commitment to not run in any provincial or federal election during the upcoming 2026-2030 term

The guidelines are pretty straight-forward: The Same Q for all candidates running for the same office – mainly Yes/No Qs – 50 word max limit to respond – a hard cut-off deadline for responses and then posting to AHSA asap. The goal is to get these responses to voters to help in some small way to get to know the candidates. All 3 Q&As will be available before the first Advance Poll on Oct 7th. Q&A #2 will be out on Sept 27th with Q&A #3 posted on Oct 3rd Stay tuned!

Next Steps … and Some Qs too!

The campaign period starts on Sept 19th after the deadline for candidates to withdraw is reached. Here’s what’s next Aim High wise!

Aim High will be a community hub (hopefully there’ll be others) that features 3 portals to Q&As being asked in the community: (1) A go-to for links to what other media (SA Observer, FriAM etc) and community organizations are posting (2) Qs from the public that are sent to AHSA. See https://timlavery.ca/candidates-qas/ for how to submit to Aim High. My commitment is to ensure that these questions are fair, respectful and apply to all of the candidates. (3) A few short questions from me – mainly on governance-related matters – to all candidates in all of the 3 local races. These Qs will start to rollout in the next ten days or so after the start of the campaign period and will be batched up here as posts.
