A big red card from me for any political slates who might run in our upcoming local #Salmon Arm election – whether that be some local version or something coordinated at a provincial level. Citizens benefit from having independent candidates with a range of distinct ideas. Local governments, especially smaller ones like ours, are not the place for party, partisan or slate (they’re all intertwined) politics – period. Slates are not the way that local governments work best.

For context an offshoot of the BC Conservative Party announced late last year their intent in running candidates in local govt elections – with a potential list that included Salmon Arm. Time will tell. I’ll have a lot more to say about any version of slate’ish politics as the election nears.
